Toronto’s Premier Dual-Language
English Mandarin JK–6 School

About Us

The Shire School 赛尔双语学校 (多伦多中英文双语学校) is an enriched, dual-language — English and Mandarin — co-ed elementary school for children grades JK through 6. We are based in the beautiful and leafy Annex neighborhood of Toronto, close to several of Toronto’s (and Canada’s) finest academic, cultural and athletic institutions, within walking distance to two subway lines and several parks.

Our school will bring the knowledge and expertise of its talented faculty, combined with a challenging curriculum to offer a program that is designed to help our students excel academically and achieve proficiency in two languages.

We believe our unique dual-language program will help children build their brain power to develop into successful global citizens, through a caring, fun, and inquisitive atmosphere where kids are encouraged to strive to reach their full potential.

Our logo combines our English and Chinese names with a bonsai tree, a partnering that beautifully represents our dual-language school. The bonsai tree is symbolic of harmony, balance, and patience. The colour red represents joy, happiness, and luck in Chinese culture. The green tree is a symbol of tenacity, fortitude, and growth. The tree trunk hints at an “S” shape for Shire and also for the many wondering and unexpected journeys in life. The English name of the school forms a mountain or stairs that evokes the idea of climbing and excelling towards higher education, while the Chinese name of the school forms a base for the journey of learning on which students embark.
